While Audi dropped out of the game by not replacing its A1 Sportback, Alfa Romeo could be back in the game with a second generation MiTo. The latter would take over the technical base of the Peugeot 208 to tickle the Mini.
Alfa Romeo’s product plan is complete for the next five years. In 2023, the Giulia sedan and the Stelvio SUV will go through the restyling box with, in the menu, lighting along the lines of the Tonale, just to standardize the brand’s lighting signature. Next year, as icing on the Clover, an Alfa Romeo version of the Maserati MC20 Supercar could make its appearance and take over from the majestic Alfa 8C.
Piece chosen in 2024 with the little brother of Tonale and Stelvio, an urban adventurer whose last name is probably Brennero, named after an alpine pass on the border between Austria and Italy. Let’s go to 2025 with, on this date, the arrival of the second version of the Stelvio, for the record, the current one had been revealed in world premiere in 2016 during the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Alfa Romeo MiTO, Lancia Ypsilon: same fight?
Then, in 2026, it will be Giulia’s turn to be renewed. Finally, in 2027, an even more imposing SUV than the Stelvio will rub shoulders with the E-segment of the market, while a compact sedan called the Giulietta will be introduced. The latter must make common cause with the future Lancia Delta, the two Italians will be 100% electric.
When could an Alfa Romeo MiTo fit into this busy schedule? For now, only Jean-Philippe Imparato seems to have the answer. The great boss of the Milanese brand, which never skimps on sound announcements, did not fail to declare that the door was not closed for a return of the chic city car to the range. This MiTo 2 would then take over from the technical Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa with, like them, a dual thermal/electric offer. After all, Lancia, the other Italian premium brand in the Stellantis galaxy, will use this synergy to replace the Ypsilon. Why would Alfa Romeo do without it?
